The Bicycle Story

my commute

Posted on August 6th, 2009 by Robert

First of all, I’m really sad to hear about Fat Cyclist’s wife Susan passing away. She fought to the end, but she is not in pain anymore. You should send your well wishes to her beautiful family and donate to the cause if you can afford to. Cancer is unforgiving. We should do whatever we can to fight it.

On a related note, I had my PET/CT scans on Tuesday. I am happy to report that I am still cancer free. It has been three years since I first saw my oncologist at Swedish Medical. It is hard to believe that time has gone by so quickly. I mistakenly reported to some friends that I had been free for 3 years now. Jane was quick to correct me. I am not so good with dates anymore. I blame the chemo.

For some reason I’ve had a desire to do one of those “check out my bike commute” posts for a long time now. The thing is, I have a pretty ugly and boring commute. It tends to be fairly high traffic on bumpy South Downtown (SODO for those of us in the city) roads. It is a very atypical commute for this area. It isn’t tree lined, there are no hills bigger than a small bridge incline, and almost no green to speak of. Who the heck wants to see that?

Then I kind of got thinking, my commute might just be weird enough to justify the pictures anyways… so here we go.

Typical vanity shot. I normally ride with fenders, but my rear one cracked a few months ago and I've been too lazy to replace it. I haven't needed them this summer.

I feel for Fatty.
I am so happy that you are cancer free!
I am sorry I had to correct you as three years cancer free would be even better, but still crazy to think that journey started three years ago.
I love this post about your commute, the photos are strangely beautiful, even though we see these views all the time.
